First Team
Nursling Football Club can trace their origins way back to the 1934/35 season, when a group of locals formed a team known as Nursling St Boniface and entered the Southampton League Junior Division 4, winning the title at the first attempt. their progress, however, was halted by the outbreak of World War 2.
In 1951, in assocoiation with a local Youth club, they reformed under the new identity of Nutfield United and rejoined the Southampton League, where they slowly climbed up through the Junior ranks, winning the Junior Division 4 title in 1963/64.
By 1972 Nutfield United had reached the Senior section and spent the next ten years or so alternating between Senior Divisions 1 and 2 before their fortunes dramatically took off in 1986/87 when they won the Senior Division 1 title to reach the Premier Division for the first time in their history. With a strong squad they more than adapted to life in the top flight as they immediately clinched back to back titles. This resulted in the club making a successful application to join the Hampshire League Division 2 for the 1989/90 season, depsite the basic facilities at their Recreation Ground home only just meeting entry requirements.
In 1992 the club chnage its name to Nursling FC and with a promising Youth side and a successful Reserve Team the future looked good. But the demands of county League Football eventually proved too much and after relegation in 1994/95 the club disbanded their First X1 with the Reserves retaining their Southampton League position in Senior Division 2.
After a short period rebuilding, the club's fortunes improved once again and after successively winning the Senior Division 2 and Senior Division 1 titles they returned to the Premier Division in 1998/99 where they have since remained. During this time they have very much become a dominant force, usually found in the top three and being crowned Champions in 2002/2003, 2003/2004, 2005/2006 and 2007/2008. In recent times Nursling FC have reached two Southampton Senior Cup Finals.
With a very strong and successful squad the next step would be to take the club back to the Hampshire Leagues, however, with inadequate facilities, there has been no realistic possibility of this happening, and as a result of this, the 2008/2009 season ended with the majority of the squad and management moving on to pasture new and settling in at an alternative club, already situated in the Hampshire Leagues. As a result, Nursling FC very nearly went out of existence, but for the hard work and effort of club stalwarts Steve Prout, Danny Gettings and Martin Boulton, who between them managed to find a new chairman in Andy Clark and new team to continue in to the 2009/2010 season.
The 2010/2011 season will once again see the old Nursling FC spirit back and hopefully (pre season friendly results into account) see a successful season ahead.
Veterans Team
In 1999 an ageing Nursling FC Reserve team decided to switch from Junior Division 3 to become founder members of the Southampton Leagues innovative Veterans section, and boasting such an illustrious history, the club were quickly able to assemble a decent side who have since become one of the competitions strongest and successful teams. In recent seasons Nursling FC Veterans have won both the 'B' Division and 'A' Division, as well as the Hampshire and Southampton Cup's.
